Avoid dry skin this winter

It’s winter, and for many of us that means dry, cracked skin. If you live in a cold climate, then your winter is probably full of processed, dry air that leaches moisture from your skin. That can cause a variety of problems, including acne breakouts that look much more obvious against an ashy face. There are, however, plenty of ways to keep your skin properly hydrated this winter season.

1. Drink plenty of water – Your skin needs a lot of water to stay hydrated during the winter. If you’re extremely active, then you might need more than 8 glasses a day.

2. Use a non-comedogenic moisturizer – “Non-comedogenic” means that the lotion will not clog your pores and cause acne breakouts. Many moisturizers contain oils and fats that will plug your pores, creating a breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria. Non-comedogenic formulas, however, do not contain oils and fats. That way, you can use them daily without worrying about breakouts.

3. Use a humidifier – A lot of people forget that they can humidify the air inside their homes. There are plenty of inexpensive humidifiers that can add moisture to the air.

4. Where sunblock – People who wear sunblock during the summer often forget that they can get sun damage during the winter, too. In fact, depending on where you live, the sun might be even worse for your skin during the winter. You can even look for moisturizers that offer some UVA and UVB resistance. That’s a useful option for forgetful or busy people who don’t want to add another step to their morning routines.
