De-stress to de-acne: report number one

Over the past week, I have done tai chi on alternating days, meditated for ten minutes per day, and spent at least half an hour reading before bedtime. These activities were chosen to help me relax in the hope that I can reduce the amount of acne that I get. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, there is a link between chemicals released during stressful periods and several skin problems, including acne.

I didn’t expect much from just one week of this experiment. Unfortunately, I have proven my suspicions correct.

I think that the meditation and reading has improved my quality of life, and, therefore, helped me reduce the amount of stress that I experience. The meditation is a nice break from whatever the day demands of me. The reading gives me something to look forward to at the end of the day.

I’m not convinced, however, that the tai  chi is great for me. They hold classes at my gym, so I join them every other day. I always leave feeling like I just skipped a workout. I think that I need something a little more energetic. I’m willing to keep giving tai chi a try, at least for another week, but I might have to alter my original plans a little.

I took a picture of my face yesterday to score today. I’m giving it a 7, which is also what I gave the first picture that I took at the beginning of this experiment.

Conclusion: I feel pretty good, but there hasn’t been enough time for me to see any changes in my skin.
