Holiday eating doesn’t cause acne

As the holidays approach, I want to remind everyone that it is okay to indulge in your favorite foods once in a while. Studies have shown that a person’s diet has very little to do with whether he or she has acne. You might put on a pound or two, but you don’t need to worry about pimples.

The myth that oily foods and chocolate cause acne is just that: a myth. It’s easy to see why people would think that foods such as pizza would lead to increased acne. After all, if you took the grease off of your pizza and put it on your face, you’d probably have an immediate breakout. You wouldn’t even need to sleep on it. I’m pretty sure that you’d just automatically have a face full of zits.

Eating greasy foods, however, does not mean that your face is greasy. Now, that being said, your diet does have some impact on skin health. Your skin is your body’s largest organ. If you don’t eat nutritious foods and drink lots of water, then that organ’s health will suffer along with the rest of the body. As long as you are getting the right vitamins and minerals, though, you shouldn’t have to worry about getting more pimples.

I’m not advocating that anyone stop thinking about what they eat and commit themselves to a life of pizza, cheeseburgers and chocolate. Those things should be enjoyed on a limited basis. I do, however, think that it is perfectly fine to cut loose a little around the holidays and enjoy yourself.
